Carolyn Meyer
Artist Information
Artist Bio

Carolyn Meyer, a California native living in Marin County, paints the landscape of the North Bay Area with her brilliant use of color, shadow and light. She is considered one of the San Francisco Bay Area's premiere colorists and plein- air painters.

Carolyn's interpretation of the beautiful and sweeping landscape, using bold strokes and an overall loose feel, allows her to capture the essence of a place with a perfect dose of realism. Although her work shows an influence of 19th century sensibilities of European and Early California Impressionism, she is often compared with the Society of Six, the group of influential plein -air painters working in the Bay Area in the 1920s and 30s.

After high school, Carolyn attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. The change in terrain and climate turned out to be welcome reliefs’ from the scorching desert. Soon enough she went to San Francisco to attend Academy of Art College, where she earned both her BFA and MFA degrees. Carolyn currently teaches at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco where she also works as the Director of Galleries and Assistant Director of Fine Art Painting. Her work is featured in private and corporate collections across the United States, Europe and Asia.
