FX Harsono Makes The New York Times!

After four decades of providing a critical voice against political and social oppression in Indonesia, FX Harsono is racking up the accolades.  We would like to congratulate FX Harsono on the glowing write-up he received in this weekend's New York Times and International Herald Tribune, and on his one-man show, "FX Harsono: Testimonies," at the Singapore Art Museum.

Some of FX Harsono's seminal works are now on show at the Singapore Art Museum until May 9, showcasing the artists evolution, from his conceptual visions of the 1970s to his groundbreaking social commentaries of the 1990s to his more recent explorations of identity and self.  Among the works is “Voice Without Voice/Sign,” a 1993-4 work in which the artist arranged nine silk-screen canvases in a row, each imprinted with a gesturing hand and collectively spelling out "DEMOKRASI," with the final hand being bound by rope to symbolize the political oppression going on in his home country at the time.

FX Harsono will follow up his current show at the Singapore Art Museum by participating in "My World, Your World, Our World," a major exhibition of Contemporary Southeast Asian Art that opens at Wendt Gallery New York on Friday, March 19th.  He will be joined by Jumaldi Alfi, Agus Suwage, M. Irfan, Agapetus Kristiandana, Ariadhitya Pramuhendra, Dede Eri Supria, Cucu Ruchyat, Gede Mahendra Yasa, Yunizar and others.

Artist Casey Baugh makes the Cover - Once again!

The Artist's Magazine Cover - April 2010

Congratulations once again to Casey Baugh!  This marks the artist's fifth cover in less than 2 years.  How great of an accomplishment is this you might ask?  Most artists wait years to even be mentioned in a publication.  To grace the cover of even just one magazine in an artist's career is a monumental acheivement.  To be featured five times in an artists lifetime is historical.  Let me repeat - Casey Baugh has taken center state five times in less than two years!  To say this artist is going places is a colosal understatement.  Here are a few examples of his other covers:

There are many great things in store for this young artist in 2010 including Casey Baugh's first ever "One Man Show" to take place late Fall of this year in NY.

Please feel free to post any comments or questions, we would enjoy hearing from everyone.
